Recently Mike Huckabee has signed the “No Amnesty Pledge” from numbersUSA: pledging in part to no “amnesty or any other special path to citizenship for the millions of the foreign nationals unlawfully present in the United States.”
In my opinion this is completely illogical and ridiculous. Perhaps its just an election stunt and he’s doing it to garner votes and there is a touchback condition to it, but even to say such a thing is just a lie or completely naive. There is no way we can send back every illegal immigrant in America! Even if we knew where they all were, and we made a condition separating those who were born here, we STILL couldn’t do it.
First of all it would be bad policy. Illegal immigrants do play a part in our economy and our country, whether we like it or not. Although they can and do create big problems in large numbers, they can create problems if they’re non-existent as well. Also, how do we find all of these people? And then where is the HUGE amount of money in police support to do all the work in finding, capturing, and sending them home?
No amnesty is illogical and out of the question for anybody who sincerely wants to solve this issue. First we need to secure the borders. Then we need to focus on how we can fix the damage already done, and the only logical way to do that is send some home and give amnesty with a penalization for the rest. It may be hard to swallow, and its not fair. But its the only way, and as adults you must swallow what is best even if its difficult. Especially when it has to do with the best interests of your country and millions of Americans!
